Kabaka Pyramid - Liberal Opposer

Monday Morning:

Bounced off the underground, brisk walk in the brisk air, headphones bringing heat to my ears, and as I step through the door to start work, my auto playlist selects this...

Mario Evon - Soul Tek Official Music Video

My Reggae Soul brother finally launches the official music video for Soul Tek from the forthcoming M.E. On Love debut.

Snarky Puppy Family Dinner

I absolutely love this approach to recording an album!

Brooklyn based instrumental fusion band Snarky Puppy take over the Jefferson Center in Roanoke VA with a host of musical guests and the audience right there on stage amongst them.

I've envisioned this for myself many times so I was so elated to stumble upon it being done, and in such a lovely space. Sound engineers wet dream... or worst nightmare I'd imagine. Live and intimate, check these recordings from Snarky Puppy - Family Dinner ...

Arc at Arch 1

Having barely popped that cherry for live music in London, and hungry for more, I recently found myself at Arch 1 in West Ham.

I happened upon a curious threesome there, live on stage in an act together that some may consider... lewd, shocking, or weird at best. A mature and experienced ensemble, and boy were they going at it! They seemed to be in the final throws of what I would later learn was a 25 year anniversary celebration of being together. They had invited a fourth up to join and oh what swingers they were. Touching parts of their instruments I didn't know you could, I watched frozen as they got lost in themselves then each other.

You could have scored a horror flick with some of what happened up there, but you know, they each seemed to find each other in the darkness there with their eyes closed, naked to the world.

Not sexy, but I had to keep my eyes glued till the very end. What an experience ...

People still buy CD's? - Esperanza Spalding, Gregory Porter

Radio Music Society

Be Good

Walked into an HMV late last year like an idiot looking for music. Smh. Green to London, like I never used to live here, I find myself asking some clueless girl to find Anita Bakers new album for me. Tut tut tut.

See I was reminiscing waltzing around a virgin mega store looking like a kid in a toy shop, flipping through rows and rows of music; floor to ceiling, wall to wall. There was a time you found everything you wanted, made discoveries, and people in there knew about music. Sure there were posters and video games etc but you could go get that experience where you come home and pull a CD out the plastic and look at the art work, dare I even mention buying vinyl. Maybe you pull out a poster from that fresh packaging, start reading the credits and get stuck in as u hit play - no?

Forget that!. HMV's the same size but its all games and iphone accessories. The only music is the top 40, everything else looks like a closing down sale. And its not that alphabetically categorized flip through pleasantry either. Biggest font are the numbers 1 through 40, they'd fully cover the cases if they could.

Recounting the tale days after to others taught me better. "People still buy CD's?". No you'd have to specially order that online. Of course, how silly am I digital download age. Where have I been?

So I'm proud to say the Youtube downloaded MP3's on my phone of Gregory Porter and Esperanza Spalding  have been replaced, ripped straight from the original albums my uncle ordered on Amazon

That's that 'hearing is disbelieving face'... feeling it! feeling it!. Gladdis! Happens to me every time I hear a beat or some new music that's just taken my head off, maybe it even turns into that other face, that 'I just got slapped in the face with a fist sized lemon' face...

Esperanza aint nothing wrong with you. I love yow smile yow teef and the way you jump out your fro girl.

Daft Punk - Get Lucky feat. Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers - Song of the day

Today's 'song of the day' had the biggest streaming day for a single track in the UK and US when it was released on Friday. 'Get Lucky' has already hit number three in the UK Top 40 after being on sale for just a few days.

Foundation - Jah Sun & Kabaka Pyramid official video

Went to look for my breddah in rhyme Kabaka Pyramid the other day and ended up rolling through to his video shoot for Foundation with Jah Sun. A handfull of us as bredrin in music were together with fire blazin and Soursop blend sipping up. Director Tim Cash came out with a small crew and his toys and set up. This deep pool of talent had gathered in the hills overlooking sun basked Kingston to make the video happen just in time before heavy rain tore through the sky. What a blessing

Mario Evon 'Back to the Future' at Redbones

Friday March 15th Mario Evon returned to Red Bones Blues Cafe with 'Back to the Future'.

Rain fell all day, mangoes dropped from trees, and panties flew that night. The 'Prince of Reggae-Soul' sailed smooth and easy through Reggae Oldies, Soul favourites and dancehall gems while spicing and blending with some originals from his forthcoming album M.E. On Love.

Always bringing friends and family along; DJ Wayne Greezy selected on the digital wheels of steel; Stratdon warmed the ladies and opened the show; Stephen Madden, Jasmine and Suzanne Tylor lent guest /support vocals, as well as myself The MC... who did exactly that. (speaking in 3rd person?- Yup). All this while the band put it down!

Many thanks to Pree Jamaica and Marcus Golding Photography for these images, see the rest here and here...

Pay Attention - Hip Hop happens

Jamaican hip hop royalty

Well supported, the Hip Hop movement continues to grow on The Rock. I enjoyed this show from start to finish, and was welcomed like hip Hop royalty among people genuinely there for the music. Inztinkz and DJ Andre Young had the place moving wall to wall. Heads were banging between sets, and the sets were heavy. Everybody took the stage professionally and stood uniquely and individually as a genuine bonafide definition of Jamaican Hip Hop. I don't know how many are aware they were just a part of history.

Check for France Nooks, 5 Star, KoroFyah and Iyah Gift. Here's some of the footage...
